Dan Evans (300/1 - US Open Outright) is the sole remaining Brit in the men's draw in the US Open after he made it through to the third round at Flushing Meadows, while teen star Emma Radacanu is in second-round action in the women's singles later.

At a rain-affected US Open, British No.1 Evans matched his best-ever run at the Grand Slam after he saw off American Marcos Giron 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-3 to progress to the third round, where he faces Australia's Alexei Popyrin, who beat Bulgarian 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov.

Evans is 4/7 to beat Popyrin, who is 11/8 for victory, to progress to the fourth round.

Evans' victory was held up twice by rain breaks as New York deals with storms and flooding but the 24th seed admitted he was delighted to get through, although he revealed he was still feeling the after-effects of a bout of Covid which first hit him in July.

He said: "I was struggling after Covid and when you've got no confidence it is is tough. I've done great to hang in, if I say so myself, and get physically better. This win meant a lot."

World number three Stefanos Tsitsipas, meanwhile, is also through to the third round after a convincing 6-3 6-4 6-7(4) 6-0 win over Adrian Mannarino, in which he managed a career-high 27 aces, on Wednesday.

Argentine 11th seed Diego Schwartzman eventually beat South African Kevin Anderson after a bizarre suspension in play due to rain - even though the roof of the Louis Armstrong arena was closed. After wind somehow brought rainwater into the court, with fans putting up umbrellas, the venue was dried and Schwartzman came out on top 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-4. He will face Slovakian Alex Molcan next.

There were also victories for world number two Daniil Medvedev, Russian fifth seed Andrey Rublev and Canadian 12th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Later, all eyes will be on 18-year-old Radacanu as the Brit, who shot to prominence with an unexpected run to the fourth round at Wimbledon earlier this summer, takes on China's Zhang Shuai in her second-round match, which is scheduled to start at 16:00 (Radacanu 4/6, Zhang 6/5).

On Wednesday in the women's draw, second seed Aryna Sabalenka made it through after a 6-3 6-1 victory over Tamara Zidansek in the second round, although she had to survive an injury scare when she fell and appeared to damage her wrist.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep saw off Slovakia's Kristina Kucova 6-3 6-1 after defending champion Naomi Osaka was handed a walkover against Olga Danilovic and Elena Rybakina, seeded 19th, beat Caroline Garcia 6-1 6-4.
