The Gambia have been one of the surprise packages at this year's Africa Cup of Nations and head coach Tom Saintfiet hopes they can continue to shock during their quarter-final clash with hosts Cameroon on Saturday (The Gambia 15/2, Draw 5/2, Cameroon 8/15 - Match Result).

Participating in their first AFCON finals and ranked 150th in the world, nobody from the outside was expecting The Gambia (33/1 to win AFCON) to excel at this tournament, but after finishing second in Group F, they booked their place in the last eight thanks to Monday's 1-0 victory over Guinea.

That has set up a clash with hosts Cameroon (11/4) in Douala, and Saintfiet, who has been in charge of the Scorpions since 2018, insists his side will be going into the contest believing they can cause a major upset.

"We want to learn and be better in the future," the Belgian said at his pre-match press conference.

"But now that we are here, we want to stay for a long time. What happens Saturday won't change a lot about our feelings but the team, the players and the staff we have one goal and we will see what is possible."

The Gambia will be without Yusupha Njie for Saturday's game after he was sent off against Guinea, while fellow forward Ablie Jallow and defender Noah Sonko Sundberg are injury doubts.

It could be a tale of two strikers at the Japoma Stadium, with The Gambia's main threat likely to come from Musa Barrow, who has been involved in all four of their goals at the finals, while Cameroon boast the tournament's leading scorer in six-goal hero Vincent Aboubakar.

The second of Saturday's quarter finals will see Burkina Faso take on Tunisia in Garoua (Burkina Faso 13/5, Draw 7/4, Tunisia 29/20 - Match Result).

Burkina Faso booked their place in the last eight after overcoming Gabon on penalties, while Tunisia, who underwhelmed during the group stage, stunned Nigeria in their opening knockout match.

The North Africans may well be growing into the tournament and should be boosted by the return to the starting XI of captain Wahbi Khazri after the former Sunderland star was only fit enough for a place on the bench against Nigeria.

The two winners of Saturday's quarter finals will meet in the last four in Yaounde next Wednesday.
