Members of the GOP are demanding that the Senate ends its contracts with Citibank for the latter's financing of "abortion tourism," citing 50 years of policy against using tax money to fund abortion

Montana Senator Steve Daines is among many Republican voices calling on the US Senate to end its contracts with Citibank due to their promise to pay for employees to travel out of state for abortions.

From the Daily Wire:

"Citi's decision to finance abortion tourism for its employees in brazen circumvention of State law, shows a reckless disregard for the lives of preborn children and disdain for the will of the people of the States in which Citi acts as an employer," Daines wrote.

The lawmaker references Citibank's promise that "in response to changes in reproductive healthcare laws in certain states in the U.S., beginning in 2022" it would "provide travel benefits to facilitate access to adequate resources," after the passage of Texas's SB 8 which banned abortions after the unborn baby has a heartbeat.

Currently, Citibank credit cards are used for official purposes by all members of Congress to pay for travel expenses, supplies, and other necessities.

Daines demands that this contract be terminated, citing 50 years of federal policy dictating against usage of taxpayer money to fund abortions.

"taxpayer dollars used by the U.S. Senate should not be administered through a company that facilitates abortion on demand and promotes a woke, pro-abortion agenda."

"Accordingly," he continued, "we ask that you immediately terminate the U.S. Senate's existing contracts with Citi and refrain from entering into any new contractual agreements with Citi."

Republicans in the House of Representatives, led by Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson, also sent a letter to House Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor in early April, with a similar request that the House ceases to do business with Citibank due to their promise to fund abortions.

Having awoke, blatantly pro-abortion agenda as a major company should under normal circumstances warrant boycotting on its own. However, a company with this agenda that does business with the US Federal Government should not only be boycotted by private citizens but must also immediately lose its contracts with the government. As Daines accurately said, federal policy has been against the usage of taxpayer money to fund abortions for 50 years–and for good reason,
