The 109th Tour de France starts on Friday, with Copenhagen hosting the Grand Depart and the 176 riders selected for La Grande Boucle tackling a 13.2km individual time-trial.

As you'd expect, the route has been designed to show off the best of the Danish capital and will see the participants go past such attractions as Tivoli Gardens and the Little Mermaid.

The pan-flat Parcours should suit the specialists and world time-trial champion Filippo Ganna is 11/10 to take the race's first yellow jersey on his Tour debut.

The Italian has worn the leader's jersey twice after the opening day of the Giro d'Italia and is hoping to add a Maillot Jaune to his pair of Maglia Rosa.

Ganna has said that it "won't be easy" but 2012 Tour champion Bradley Wiggins believes his new bike, a Pinarello Bolide TT similar to the one the Brit used to set the hour record in 2015, gives him a major advantage.

"The major difference with this model is that it's the first TT bike that Pinarello have designed for disc brakes," Wiggins told Eurosport.

"Ganna rode this last weekend at the Italian National Championships and has told the team that the disc brakes enable him to break later, and therefore the bike is much faster.

"The bike is lighter than in previous editions and according to the man himself, handles better and is stiffer and faster out of corners - something that can prove vital on the Copenhagen TT course."

Tour de France Betting Odds

The Ineos Grenadiers' man leads the betting ahead of 5/2 Stefan Bissegger from EF Education-EasyPost and Jumbo-Visma's Wout van Aert, who is also available at 5/2.

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar is 33/1, with fellow Slovenian and rival for the overall Primoz Roglic slightly shorter at 25/1 to win the opening stage.

Roglic won last year's Olympic time-trial gold so will hope to have an advantage, but he trails his compatriot in the outright betting.

Pogacar is 8/11 to win a third straight Tour, with Roglic 4/1, the same price as his improving Jumbo-Visma colleague, Jonas Vingegaard, who was second last year.
