It's another busy racing day on Tuesday with extra cards added to compensate following the cold snap that derailed the programme in mid-January.
They race over jumps at Limerick, Newcastle, Ffos Las and Lingfield while the all-weather action is from Southwell in the evening.
Our Tuesday selections include an improving chaser for Harry Whittington heading for what looks a competitive contest at Newcastle.
Selections
- Newcastle 2.35 - Old Painless @ 5/2
- Ffos Las 2.50 - Oscar Thyne @ 10/3
- Southwell 8.30 - Ciao Adios - 3/1
Tip 1
This handicap chase over just shy of three-miles at Newcastle looks very competitive and should provide a good spectacle as a trio of contenders can all be expected to lay down decent claims.
French Paradoxe looked sure to win at Ffos Las in December, which would have seen him completing a chasing hat-trick, but instead he took a crashing final-fence fall. That means it is two falls in four starts instead of three wins and it was a bruising tumble so there could be some lingering effects mentally.
Castle Rushen, meanwhile, was second-best over 2m4f here 24 days ago, staying on to good effect late on and Nicky Richards' runner could have more to come upped in distance.
They are both taken on with OLD PAINLESS (5/2) for Harry Whittington and Daryl Jacob. The lightly-raced winning pointer began his chasing career with a smooth win at Plumpton (2m3½f, soft) just before Christmas and found only a progressive rival too good nine days later at Kelso (2m6½f, heavy) under a 7lb penalty, with the front two a long way clear.
He is 6lb higher again now but a mark of 121 looks well within reach for this improving seven-year-old and he can make the most of the weight he's getting from his two main market rivals in this Betfred Extra Place Race (three places).

Tip 2
OSCAR THYNE (10/3) should have a big say in the Allan John (AJ) Memorial Handicap Hurdle (2.50) at Ffos Las this afternoon for trainer Fergal O'Brien.
He managed wins in a maiden hurdle and a beginners' chase during his time with Gavin Cromwell in Ireland before relocating to this handler.
He made his yard debut at Cheltenham in November and finished third in a big-field contest, catching the eye with some good late progress from the rear in a race that has worked out well, with a couple of subsequent winners finishing around him.
He's rated 3lb higher for this assignment and given that run came after 517 day out, it's no surprise his new trainer has been patient in getting him back out. He can build on that pleasing first outing and is on today's Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder.
Tip 3
All the way to 'lucky last' at Southwell for our final selection on Tuesday with Richard Hannon's CIAO ADIOS (3/1) fancied to be back in the winners' enclosure.
By The Gurkha, this filly grabbed her opening all-weather win over C&D in the middle of January, showed tenacity to shade a slender verdict under Sean Levey. She carried a 5lb penalty to Lingfield four days ago and was unfortunate to bump in a well-handicapped sort making her all-weather debut from a low rating and making fairly short work of the task.
Ciao Adios can effectively run from a 2lb lower mark this evening as she bids to maintain her perfect Southwell record. She's another from Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder and should have a big say.
