Going into the race we'll surely see plenty of support for favourite Cyberknife. The son of Gun Runner - who won this race five years ago - had a strong three-year-old season highlighted by a good win over a solid field in the Grade I Haskell. For me though he's too short to be such an overwhelming choice in the market and I would struggle to back him at odds of 7/4 which is his current price at the time of publication.
Backing against Bob Baffert isn't a way to get rich but the California based trainer hasn't had half as much success away from the west coast. Defunded was a disappointment as a three-year-old but a couple of solid wins to end his four-year-old season - including getting that all important Grade I win for breeding purposes have thrust him forward in terms of being a player for big races. However I'm looking past him as well as the 9/2 on offer.
I've been a long-time fan of Art Collector who is very much a feast or famine horse and at the current odds of 12/1 will be my pick. Turning back Swiss Skydiver in the Blue Grass was impressive enough but out-duelling Maxfield in the Grade I Woodward is a first-rate victory. Just as likely to finish outside the top three as he is to win but this Bill Mott trained three-year-old is a good price to win.
In the other big races of the day I am drawn more towards the favourites although in the Pegasus World Cup Turf, my top choice would be Lady Speightseare. My biggest concern with her is distance as if it was a furlong shorter I reckon she'd be among the pre-race favourites. She's 5/1 with us with Ivar the 9/4 favourite.
Obligatory returns for another year and is probably going to go off at the shortest price of the day in the Grade II Inside Information. Plenty to love about this five-year-old mare but if you want a great value each-way bet then look no further than R Adios Jersey who'll break from the outside post.
Miles D was a late blooming three-year-old back in 2021 but despite having raced only six-times in the past two years, he has yet to not finish in the top three. This Chad Brown trained horse hasn't raced since last February but has every chance to step back on to the track and bring home the Grade III Fred W. Hooper.
