Racing on Thursday comes from Southwell (AW), Wetherby, Gowran Park and Newcastle (AW) after Wincanton were forced to abandon their card due to a frozen track.
Our fancies this afternoon include a Jonjo O'Neill runner at Wetherby who is looking to continue his excellent start over fences.
Selections
- Southwell 12.25 - Infinitive @ 15/8
- Wetherby 14:35 - Iron Bridge @ 13/8
- Gowran Park 14:50 - Escaria Ten @ 13/2
Tip 1
INFINITIVE (15/8) has finished second on three starts in her career, but he has yet to get her nose in front. The four-year-old filly has a great opportunity to prevail for the first time in the opener at Southwell at 12:25.
The daughter of Ulysses moved to David O'Meara's yard earlier this month and that change in scenery is likely to have helped freshen her up. In her two appearances at this racecourse, she has found just one horse better than her on each occasion.
Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, the filly is one of the most Napped selections on the Betfred Betfinder this afternoon. She has gone up just 1lb in the ratings for her latest near miss and she remains open to improvement.

Tip 2
IRON BRIDGE (13/8) went into his novice chase campaign with a 100% record, as he won his sole start in a bumper, and he was two from two over hurdles. He has made an impressive start over fences, with just one defeat coming from three outings. The seven-year-old can add to his tally in the 14:35 at Wetherby.
Jonjo O'Neill's gelding scored on his chase debut at Carlisle over 2m4f. He then made a couple of errors over his fences at Chepstow (2m7½f) which cost him his unbeaten record on the course.
A second win over fences arrived at Haydock (3m1½f) last month, but that race was not much of a contest as he was the only horse to finish the contest in a mash-up. The handicapper has rightly kept him off the same mark for this latest assignment, which is much shorter in distance. The son of Milan has had a lot of success around this trip, so he has the speed to see off his rivals in this race.
Tip 3
ESCARIA TEN (13/2) is the highest-rated runner in the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at 14:50 at Gowran Park. Gordon Elliott's runner is now a regular in these staying chase races as he has featured in the Grand National and Irish Grand National.
Elliott will have been pleased with his horse's seasonal reappearance at Thurles last month. He ran in a Listed race over 2m6f, coming home in second place behind a smart horse from Joseph O'Brien's yard. That outing will have sharpened his chaser up ahead of this contest.
The nine-year-old has prevailed just once to date over fences. His sole success came over this distance at Thurles where he blew the field away by 20 lengths and he deserves another chase success for his performances so far. This would be a valuable prize to win for his connections.
