Most of us would presume that Dortmund are doing significantly better than Bochum in the league even without in-depth knowledge of the Bundesliga and those people would be right. Edin Terzic's side are slap-bang in the title race having been ably assisted by Bayern's recent spate of draws whereas Bochum are sitting one spot above the relegation play-off spot.
The home side have the worst defensive record in the top flight having conceded 46 goals in just 19 games but one thing they do have firmly in their favour is their recent form in front of their own fans. Five straight wins in the Bundesliga at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion is pretty darn awesome and they've beaten some decent sides too.
Yet I'm rolling with them losing even with a one-goal head-start. Seems a wee bit counter-intuitive but Dortmund have been firing on all cylinders since the winter break and despite fighting on three fronts, don't seem to be ready to throw in the towel on one of them just yet. The fact this is a rivalry game I think helps the visitors more as the possible drop-off in attitude should be slowed down.
Dortmund's recent form has been seriously boosted by the return to form and fitness of striker Sebastian Haller. The 28 year-old scored his first goal since his return from beating testicular cancer at the weekend in the clubs 5-1 victory over Freiburg. He might not have exactly lived up to his billing during a torrid spell at West Ham but he bagged 34 in 43 games for Ajax last season and his return is very timely for the visitors.
This is a gut-feel pick based on believing that Terzic is going to play a near to full-strength side. If we see plenty of reserves out there though then my feeling that the 9/5 on Dortmund winning by at least two clear goals will fade fast.
