It's fair to say not much has gone right at Everton this season – at least until this weekend, when new manager Sean Dyche masterminded an against-the-odds triumph over Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park, which turned into something of a bear pit.
Two Betfred customers, who are both Evertonians, were celebrating at the double having taken me to the cleaners.
Lewis Davies, a 28-year-old from Altrincham who works in IT, picked up £2,000 having had £20 on the Toffees beating the Gunners and keeper Jordan Pickford being booked at 100/1.
He explained: "At first I put £10 on, but a minute later I thought it was such a good bet that I did the exact same wager again.
"I'm moving into a new home soon with my girlfriend, so the money will come in handy for that – and I'm going to treat myself to a new jacket."
Meanwhile, an Everton season ticket holder won a cool £7,520 from a £20 wager at Betfred.
The 40-year-old from Liverpool bet that James Tarkowski would score and that his beloved side would win 1-0, which was a 375/1 shot.
He opted for the big centre-back to open the scoring as, just like the new boss, his previous club was Burnley – and he was due a goal.
He's considering what to do with his windfall, but a holiday in the Caribbean is definitely on the cards.
Dyche's appointment looks a match made in heaven – and I was delighted to read that he's banned hoodies from training and insists the players wear shinpads to make sessions more realistic.
If Everton play anything like they did against Arsenal, with a bit of fire in their bellies, they will soon pull out of the relegation zone for sure.
Betfred make Everton odds-against at 6/5 to face the drop – while Bournemouth and Southampton look likely at 1/5 and 1/3 respectively.
Finally, as we near the start of the Betfred Super League season which kicks off on February 16 when Warrington host Leeds, I'm chuffed to hear Stefan Ratchford is the new club captain and, like under-pressure boss Daryl Powell, has been saying all the right things about there being no excuses this term.
They're both right of course, but it's time for the talking to stop and the points to pile up if the Wire are to be feasting at the top table once again.
