Monday Horse Racing Tips: Escapeandevade can elude Carlisle rivals

Jumps action on Monday afternoon comes from Carlisle and Fontwell, while in the evening there is a seven-race card from the all-weather track at Wolverhampton.

Our fancies this afternoon include a runner which will be ridden by Champion Jockey Brian Hughes at Carlisle and he has just three rivals to beat in a handicap chase for novices.

Selections

  • Carlisle 14:10 - Escapeandevade @ 6/5
  • Fontwell 15:00 - Ozzie Man @ 11/10
  • Wolverhampton 19:00 - Abnaa @ 3/1

Tip 1

ESCAPEANDEVADE (6/5) got off the mark over fences at the second time of asking at Ayr last month. He prevailed over their extended 2m trip by an emphatic 15 lengths, making every yard of the running at the Scottish course.

James Ewart's runner has jumped well on both of his two appearances in chases in his campaign. He was smart last season as a hurdle, but it looks as though he has taken a big step forward for the bigger obstacles.

The handicapper has put the Ayr winner up 7lb in the ratings but that is unlikely to be enough to prevent him from successfully following. Expect to see more improvement, and with Champion Jockey Brian Hughes in the saddle, they look like a winning combination in this small field of just four runners.

Tip 2

OZZIE MAN (11/10) began his chase career with wins at Plumpton (2m3½f) and Lingfield (2m7½f) respectively. He then fared well off this mark of 108 at Plumpton (3m½f) and Huntingdon (2m4).

On his latest outing at Huntingdon, the seven-year-old was denied by just half-a-length. He was over six lengths clear of the rest of the field when he crossed the finish line in second place. The handicapper has kept him off that same mark and connections are opting to apply a visor this time, which may help his chances.

Gary Moore features on the Betfred Betfinder as one of the Top 10 Trainers at Fontwell this afternoon. This is a course he often has a lot of success at. His novice chaser can add to his record in the feature race of the card at the West Sussex venue and get back to winning ways.

Tip 3

ABNAA (3/1) has been in excellent form at the start of the year, with back-to-back wins coming over 7f at Southwell. He is now looking to score on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton in the 19:00.

The hat-trick seeking gelding has been successful over 7f at this course. He has also been victorious over 1m at Newcastle, so the distance should not be a problem for him as he bids to continue his winning sequence on the track.

Stall 13 is not ideal for the six-year-old, however, 5lb claimer Mark Winn tucked him away to the rear of the field last time out at Southwell. Expect to see similar tactics adopted again and, as long as he gets a clear run through the pack, he will be charging home in the closing stages to reel in the early pace setters.
