Kilmacabea were the only club with an entry in all competitions at the second Scór na bPáistí Carbery semi-final in Ballydehob last Sunday afternoon. Like the recent successful Leap Sync event, this is a further example of the current energetic and positive momentum sweeping through the club. Amongst other things, this is thanks to the establishment of LGFA teams within the club less than a year ago. We had representatives of under 8, under 10 and under 12 teams and both boys and girls in Ballydehob.
The afternoon started on a high for Kilmacabea with a win in Tráth na gCeisteanna for Emer Jennings, Zoe O'Brien, Oisín O'Donovan and Donie Paison.
Mia Collins chose a charming poem, "An Old Woman of the Roads" for the club's entry in Recitation and we are already looking forward to hearing her recite again. Kayla O'Sullivan danced magnificently in the Bun grád reel. Following that Zoe O'Brien entertained us further with a stunning performance on the tin whistle.
Pride in the club was further boosted with a spirited performance by the ballad group made up of Zoe and Caoimhe O'Brien, Annie O'Donovan, Mary Jo O'Mahony and Ciara Jennings. They sang their own ballad of the Kilmac Girls and Óró sé do Bheatha Bhaile with a lovely guitar accompaniment and impressive harmonies. We were then treated to an outstanding solo showing by Caoimhe O'Brien singing Red is the Rose in the sweetest singing voice.
Following the interval the instrumental music group were on stage and Úna O'Donovan, Rosa O'Brien, Isabelle Harte, Donie Paison and Áine Ní Lochlainn played Fáinne Geal an Lae and Séan South of Garryowen on banjo, concertina and tin whistles.
The final event on stage for the day was the Kilmacabea Novelty act of the children's version of the Salmon of Knowledge legend wherein even their local hero Damien Gore had difficulty catching the fish. This group was made up of Isabella and Molly May Harte, Annie O'Donovan, Rosa O'Brien and Áine and Maighréad Ní Lochlainn.
The Quiz team who won and the Novelty Act both progress to the Carbery final in Ballinascarthy on Sunday the 19th and we wish them all the best of luck
