Bolton vs Plymouth Odds: Pilgrims set for Wembley glory

All eyes will be on Wembley on Sunday for the final of this season's EFL Trophy, with League One promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle set to go head-to-head.

Bolton have made it through to the final of the competition for the third time and they will be aiming to replicate their achievements of 1989 when they thrashed a team from Devon - on that occasion Torquay United - 4-1.

Plymouth also hail from the south-west county, but they will be hoping to avoid being on the receiving end of a similar kind of result on Sunday, with confidence likely to be high within Steven Schumacher's squad, as they sit top of the League One standings, after winning four of their last five games.

This will be the Pilgrims first appearance in the EFL Trophy final, but will they be celebrating come the final whistle, or will Bolton be taking the trophy back up north?

Team news

Bolton are set to be without three key players for the trip to Wembley, with Lloyd Isgrove joining long-term absentees Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Jack Iredale on the treatment table after picking up a knock during a behind-closed-doors friendly against Rotherham earlier this week.

There is better news regarding George Johnston and MJ Williams, who came through that game unscathed and could now make their first-team returns on Sunday, although Shola Shoretire, Victor Adeboyejo and Dan Nlundulu are all cup tied so will miss out.

Plymouth remain without first-choice goalkeeper Michael Cooper due to a knee ligament injury, meaning Callum Burton will continue between the sticks, while forward Sam Cosgrove is available following a calf issue, but he may have to make do with a place on the bench.

Plymouth to win @ 7/4

These two sides both sit in the top five of the League One standings heading into the weekend, but leaders Plymouth are 16 points better off than Bolton in fifth, while the form book also favours the Pilgrims.

Plymouth have won four of their last five matches in the third tier, while they have only lost three of their previous 21 fixtures across all competitions, a run that stretches back nearly four months.

Meanwhile Bolton's form has tailed off at exactly the wrong time, as Ian Evatt's side have failed to win any of their last four games, scoring just twice during that time.

Recent meetings between these two teams have also favoured Plymouth as they are unbeaten in their last five clashes with Bolton, including claiming a 2-0 win at Home Park earlier this season - a similar result could therefore be on the cards on Sunday and is available at 12/1.

Football Betting Odds

#PickYourPunt - Both Teams 5 Or More Corners @ 13/8

Both these sides are used to playing on the front foot this season and that could perhaps lead to an attacking final filled with goals, chances and corners.

Plymouth have averaged 5.32 corners per match from their 38 fixtures in League One this season, including the 14 they won during their 2-0 victory over Charlton in early March.

Bolton's average is even higher at 5.45 and they have won 28 corners across their last four games, despite failing to win any of those fixtures.

The chances of both teams winning five or more corners during Sunday's match certainly appears high and could be worth backing as part of Betfred's #PickYourPunt.
