Things are not exactly rosy in the garden of Chelsea Football Club at the moment. Poor form, a bloated squad, a very caretaker manager in charge. Still I suppose it could be worse. They face Brentford on Wednesday night and we take a look at the game and pick out a couple of tips that we feel are good prices...
Chelsea vs Brentford Betting Tips - Wednesday 26 April, 2023
- Back Brentford to Win at 4/1

Oh Chelsea. I don't know if what fans of the club are experiencing is better or worse than what their brethren at Spurs are currently feeling but it has really been a shocking season but in recent months, they have been playing with as much confidence as I had walking up to a girl and asking them out as a teenager, or young adult, or adult. Anyway this isn't about my diabolical self-esteem, it is about what is going on at Stamford Bridge.
For weeks now I've sat here and thought that at some point, with as much talent at their disposal as they do, that Chelsea would right the ship. With every passing game that belief has slowly ebbed away and maybe they are what they are, a sub-standard and at best average Premier League side.
With the outlay that new owner Todd Boehly has shelled out on talent, that seems bizarre but it just goes to show that putting together a squad isn't just about acquiring talent, it is about assembling the right talent at the right time to help enhance a group of players. You can see at Newcastle exactly how to spend money to reap rewards.
Trying to predict the Chelsea starting XI is as tough a task as getting the right lottery numbers. I suspect that if you got ten fans in a room and asked them to write down who they thought would get the nod in this game, no-one would have the same eleven players and none of them would be right either. With such a bloated squad and lack of cohesion comes uncertainty.
On the other side of the ledger, we have a Brentford side who have right their first real dip of the season and we've seen them drift away from the European qualification race. Thomas Frank hasn't seen his side win in their previous six games although in five of them, they've been extremely competitive. They could easily have beaten Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton, all sides looking to renew their passports for next season but managed only to take away two points from a possible nine in those games.
What happened in all three of those games though? Ivan Toney scored. It comes as a big surprise to me that five Chelsea players are a shorter price to score than the Brentford front man, who has already notched up 19 league goals this campaign. The five players at shorter odds have between them only found the back of the net 21 times all season. Put me down for Toney to score anytime at 2/1.
The fact Chelsea are odds-on for this game baffles me. I know the visitors are in a bit of a blip but they've consistently been the better side this year and the home side are in turmoil both on and off the pitch. No way can you put up Lampard's side at 4/6 to win the game and think it's a value bet. The draw at 11/4 is much better and the 4/1 for Brentford to win is also preferred.
Predicting the Correct Score is a tough one as who knows what Chelesa will look like but I'm plump for the 1-2 away win at 14/1 as my pick in this market.
