To bind the mind.
A lot of religions, movements, firms, societies, and parties give out free books. The Gideon people will give you one of theirs if you ask nicely, and I daresay the Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, and Buddhists would supply their instruction manuals happily if you were polite and sincere.
You can also get that sort of thing from political parties, revolutionary movements, reactionary societies, and if you ask Uncle Tom Cobley and all I'm sure they would oblige.
Should you do it? Well, you might be able to gather enough paper to line the inside of your trailer, but I wouldn't, if I were you. People are precious about sacred texts and sacred about precious ones - and many of them are one sneer away from running amok anyway. Best not to poke the various bears.
A good plan is to take all that they give you, and then just shift one space to the right, and redirect the material. The Hindus love getting religious instruction from the beef lobby and the people who support John Birch are always open to the Karma Sutra. You do them all a favour by enriching their lives.
Just don't leave a forwarding address.
