Football Bet of the Day: Dortmund can sneak past Wolfsburg

Even though there is an entire round of fixtures to come from the Bundesliga this week, the pick of them may come on Sunday as the competition nears its completion.

Borussia Dortmund face Wolfsburg at 16:30, in a game that should offer plenty of entertainment.

It is a welcomed change to see the Bundesliga title up for grabs at the start of May. In recent years, the trophy has been readied to return to the Allianz Arena, but giants Bayern Munich still need to do more to defend their crown.

Thomas Tuchel's side cannot get over the line at the minute, and they hold a one-point cushion over Dortmund head into this round of fixtures.

Opponents Wolfsburg will not go down without a fight either, as a victory on Sunday could help them move into the top six and, in turn, improve their chances of securing European football.

Sadly for Dortmund, they wasted their chance to move to the summit of the Bundesliga last weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bochum.

Edin Terzic's side were expected to move clear at the top after Bayern's shock 3-1 defeat to Mainz in April, but they fluffed their lines, allowing Bayern to reclaim top spot after a 2-0 success against Hertha Berlin.

Dortmund's squad will no doubt be frustrated with that display, but at least their recent form suggests they will be able to move on quickly.

Die Borussen have only lost three in 10 matches in all competitions, while they have only lost back-to-back games in the Bundesliga on one occasion this season.

At Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund have ruled supreme of late, winning nine on the spin, while they last lost in front of their own fans in the league in August.

That run of results deserves tremendous credit, but it does not mean they will cruise past Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon.

Wolfsburg have won successive victories against Bochum and Mainz, and it should be a fascinating encounter, especially when both teams have only lost one in five.

Dortmund have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight in the German top flight.

Wolfsburg netted five times on their last away day against Bochum, the team that held Dortmund last time out, and they have scored five goals in two of their previous seven on their travels.

Dortmund have been the Bundesliga's entertainers this season, and 20 of their matches in the Bundesliga this season have produced at least three goals.

Wolfsburg have plenty to play for, and if they are to lose as we expect, then do not be shocked to see them trouble the scoreline.
