Five race meetings across the UK and Ireland on this Thursday with lots of afternoon jumps fare before an evening all-weather card as we start into the festive month of December.
The National Hunt action is at Leicester, Market Rasen, Thurles and Wincanton while they go on the Polytrack at Chelmsford.
Amongst today's fancies is a lightly-raced chaser on good terms with himself ahead of a visit to Wincanton.
Selections
- Wincanton 14.25 – Born At Midnight @ 3/1
- Market Rasen 14.40 – Future Benefits @ 13/8
- Chelmsford 17.30 – Diamond Ranger @ 7/2
Tip 1
A breakthrough winner on penultimate start at Taunton for trainer Bill Turner, BORN AT MIDNIGHT (3/1) still looks a runner to stay on the right side of having finished second since at Ludlow.
His Taunton win in early November was his first start in 353 days and he stayed on strongly over 2m7f (good) to score for claiming rider Harry Kimber.
They went to Ludlow 11 days later and seemingly had a decent chance (sent off second-fav) but the well-handicapped market leader went to the front early on and never appeared likely to relinquish that spot as Born At Midnight attempted to ruffle him up from the third last but, ultimately, had to settle for second prize.
He's been left on a mark of 84 for that effort and finds a presentable opportunity, especially after Boagrius – second in the Taunton race Born At Midnight won last month – became a non-runner.

Tip 2
Sean Quinlan and Rebecca Menzies have enjoyed a fruitful partnership in 2022, with a 26 per-cent strike-rate (5-19) showing when they have teamed up together.
FUTURE BENEFITS (13/8) has already made a contribution to that positive statistic and can do so again by landing the Tis The Season To Be Jolly Handicap Chase (14.40) at Market Rasen.
The ex-winning point-to-pointer made a pleasing start to his life as a chaser under rules when scoring last time at Newcastle (2m7½f, soft), quickly bettering anything he'd achieved in four starts over hurdles for this trainer. There should be more to come in this sphere.
Tip 3
DIAMOND RANGER (7/2) won two of his first three starts in May/June for trainer George Boughey, both at 7f and including on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. He had a couple of months off afterwards and was held at Newbury on his return off an opening mark of 91 in September.
At York in October, he never landed any sort of blow in a 16-runner handicap when upped significantly in distance to 1m2½f, though perhaps softer conditions underfoot were a hindrance there.
He bounced back at Wolverhampton 12 days ago, staying after a patient ride from Kevin Stott to be second behind Civil Law, beaten a half-length at the line.
The handicapper has nudged him back up 2lb for that effort but he's lightly-raced and open to progress at this trip, while the booking of champion jockey William Buick is another positive ahead of this Polytrack debut.
