ITV Racing, Saturday - five live races on ITV4 from Newcastle
With Cheltenham and Doncaster falling to the cold snap, ITV switch to Newcastle for their live output today.
Races - Newcastle all-weather. 1.09, 1.44, 2.19, 2.54, and 3.28
Some fancy footwork ensures that the channel will have some live action for us all, and it's to Newcastle we journey for some all-weather clashes.
All today's racing with Betfred
1.09 - 1m handicap, 3yr-old+
A dozen are slated to face the starter and three top jocks, especially in the north, have fancied mounts towards the head of the market.
Graham Lee, Paul Mulrennan and Danny Tudhope will all fancy getting involved, and it's with Tudhope that I'm siding - and his mount Star Shield.
Prolific owners are Middleham Park Racing, it's a course and distance winner, and a solid second at the track in the same grade last time. 15/2 at the minute, so each-way is a good option.
1.44 - 1m Novice stakes, 2yr-olds
Precious little to go on here. James Ferguson trains Roaring Legend, a son of the wonderful Roaring Lion, and the excellent Danny Muscott takes the ride. A winning debut is for me a distinct possibility. Around 5/1.
2.19 - 1m Novice stakes, 2yr-olds
The second division of the previous event. Again, very few with racecourse experience but one that has seen some action is Intricacy. Trained by the Crisfords and ridden by the superb Kevin Stott, he managed a creditable second at Wolverhampton.
However, the one I like is Nazymbek, a 10/3 Roger Varian inmate ridden by Jack Mitchell.
By Kingman, he already holds a Derby entry and will doubtless know his job on debut.
2.54 - 2m 1/2 f Conditions Stakes, 3yr-old+
Only three face the starter, and there's an odds-on hot-pot .... in the shape of Enemy. Difficult to oppose, well clear on official ratings, and should really prevail here for Danny Tudhope.
3.28 - 6f handicap, 3yr-old+
Far more competitive stuff - a dozen hopefully line-up, and plenty in with chances. 13/2 shot Mach Pride is a consistent 4yr-old who has been knocking on the door of late. It might just open today.
Narrowly chinned in a Class 4 the time before last, over course and distance, Ben Haslam's gelding has plenty going for him and runs at an each-way price.
Have a lovely afternoon's racing. Nice little appetiser for that wee football match later ...
