The Premier League returns on Saturday, where the early kick off sees old foes Manchester City host Liverpool. We've provided a preview, as well as a couple of suggested best bets.
Man City vs Liverpool Tips
- Man City to win and Both Teams To Score - 2/1
- Julian Alvarez to score first - 4/1
These two sides have battled it out for Premier League supremacy in recent years but a lousy start sees the Reds well off the pace and it is Arsenal who are challenging Manchester City (3/5) for the title.
For one reason or another, this will be Liverpool's (4/1) first Premier League game for three weeks and they should be well rested and raring to go, as they attempt to break into the top four.
City are eight points behind the Gunners at the top of the table and they simply must keep winning to keep up any semblance of a chance of retaining their trophy.
Team news:
Pep Guardiola is sweating on the fitness of star striker Erling Haaland, after he missed the international break for Norway. He has not trained with his teammates and is only in light training.
Phil Foden will definitely miss out as he recovers from his unexpected appendix surgery.
Jurgen Klopp is without several squad members including Thaigo, Joe Gomez Calvin Ramsay and Stefan Bajcetic, as well as having doubts over Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Kostas Tsimikas.
If Nunez is fit, he will start in a front three with Gakpo and Salah.
Latest Man City vs Liverpool Betfred Odds
Man City to win and Both Teams To Score - 2/1
As mentioned earlier, City simply have to win this one and even without Haaland and Foden, I think they can.
Liverpool were as bad against Bournemouth, as they had been majestic against Manchester United and their away form remains a huge cause for concern.
City have only lost once at home and their home support should be bang up for such a huge game.
The Reds obviously carry plenty of scoring firepower in their line up and I can see them breaching the City backline on at least one occasion. I don't think it will be enough to pick up any points though.
Julian Alvarez to score first - 4/1
Alvarez is a fine back up option for Haaland and he has impressed in the limited game time he has been given.
The Argentine may only have five Premier League goals to his name but he has only played 737 minutes of action, equivalent to just over eight full matches.
Anyone who saw him at the World Cup, will know just how lethal he can be up front. Obviously if Haaland does start up top, switch him in for Alvarez.
Betfred are also running their famed Double Delight/ Hat-trick Heaven Promotion on this match, meaning should Alvarez score first and then go on to score a second, you will be paid at double the odds (8/1). Should he score a 3rd, you would be paid at triple the odds (12/1).
